Tax Prep-Worth paying?

If I'm a straight-forward wage earner & home owner, is it really worth paying H&R Block or other prep companies to do my taxes?

I've always done them myself, and really don't see where they are going to come up with a bigger refund than what I'm getting.

Thoughts?

I look at it as peace of mind / insurance. In case there is an audit--they go with you .

If your financial situation as you say it is silly to pay someone to do your taxes. If you are of average intellegence, you can read the directions, fill out your forms and send them in. As far as an audit; very, very few returns are audited and if you tell the truth on your tax return, you have nothing to worry about.

I decided to say screw H&R and their $145 fee & did them online at Taxact.com in 15 minutes for $20.

Average intelligence is very subjective term. Plus there are changes sometime to the state or Federal tax laws, Plus when you call the Government 800 number for help....whatever they may tell you WILL NOT have any meaning during an audit. Plus I never get tax forms in the mail anymore.
It's not for everyone and they charge too much too, but peace of mind has some value too.

You did the right thing my friend. If you're getting a refund, put it all on Villanova.......
